This week at Sacred Heart, we have been learning about refugees and how we can raise awareness. On Friday, we worked in our peer support groups to learn more. Together, we made Comfort Quilts. Each of us decorated a square with messages of hope, kindness, and welcome. When we joined our squares together, they became one big quilt. Our message was clear: just like a quilt wraps us in warmth, we are all wrapped up in God’s love. Stage 1 led us in prayer for the Liturgy of the Word as we joyfully celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day, we remember and honour Mary’s unwavering faith, her perfect obedience to God’s will, and the glorious moment when she was taken body and soul into Heaven. This mystery fills us with hope, reminding us of God’s promise of eternal life for those who remain faithful. Our celebration was a beautiful time of prayer, reflection, and unity as a community, lifting our hearts in gratitude for Mary’s example and intercession. Our Lady, Assumed into Heaven. This week Sacred Heart will be learning about Refugee Week – a special time when we think about people who have had to leave their homes because it was not safe. These people are called refugees. A refugee is someone who had to leave their country to find safety, often because of war, danger, or unfair treatment. Many refugees have lost their homes, and sometimes even their families. Refugee Week is important because it helps us learn about the journeys of refugee families and how we can be kind, welcoming, and understanding—just like Jesus. This week, we want to show kindness and welcome. Here are some of our ideas: ✨Make welcome posters for our school ✨Learn about different countries where refugees come from ✨Write prayers of hope for refugee families ✨Smile and include someone who feels left out ✨Give thanks for our safe homes and families ✨Share books and stories about refugee journeys We hope everyone will join us in being like Jesus – kind, loving, and welcoming! Thank you to Year 2 for leading us in this plan for action that links with our Mercy Value of Hospitality!

This week in Year 2 , we’ve been exploring Chance – looking at the likelihood and unlikelihood of different events happening. We had so much fun coming up with our own chance events, from “a cat flying to the moon” to “it raining jellybeans,” and then turning them into creative stories! The students loved using their imaginations while learning important maths language like likely, unlikely, possible, and impossible. We discovered that maths can be both logical and magical!
